General-Purpose Utility Locators
The VM 500 Series are general-purpose utility locators for detecting buried pipe and cable services in a wide variety of situations. A 50/60 Hz passive power frequency plus three active frequencies let them detect live power cables and trace short ranges, and an additional 8 kHz fault-find frequency detects ground-to-sheath faults when paired with the VM-510 stand-alone A-frame fault locator.
The one-watt transmitter applies a locate frequency by direct connection or induction, and optional induction clamps clamp around a line to induce the locate signal. The VM-560 adds a 480 kHz high frequency for tracing small, poorly grounded conductors.
